About the Festival DAXI DAXI

Mountain town comes together for religion, welcoming the birthday of Lord Guan

On the 24th day of the 6th lunar month annually, more then 30 local shetou groups celebrate the birthday of Lord Guan. The festival and pilgrimage orchestrated by Daxi's Puji Temple is busiest, and is called “Daxi Grand Worship.”

Daxi Grand Worship is called “Daxi's second Chinese New Year" and is the largest Lord Guan pilgrimage in north Taiwan. On the 23rd day, the night visit is held, then the pilgrimage passes through all the local area on the 24th, with the Beiguan orchestras, Tong Zai (deity figures), Da Xian Wang Zi (holy generals) and lion and dragon dancers of each group. In recent years, as the number of groups and formations has increased, the pilgrimage's starting time has been brought forward to the 23rd day. During the grand occasion of the two-day pilgrimage, Daxi is a town that never sleeps.

Contemporary design brings a joyous ceremony

From 2018, with Daxi Daxi as the name, the “advance festival” for the celebration of Lord Guan's birthday has been held from two weeks before the 24th day of the 6th lunar month. Daxi's Welcoming the 24th day of the 6th Lunar Month pilgrimage culture features cross-area designers and artists, who collect from and are inspired by traditional culture, leading the people and gods to tour the old houses of the mountain town. Combining temple fair, light and shadow, music, market, theater and the enthusiastic involvement of local people, amidst the light and shadow and sound, a contemporary festival can be encountered in the old town.
