抽象與簡化是荷蘭風格派（De Stijl）（1917-1931）主張的兩大命題，將複雜的造型簡化為幾何形狀，使平面、直線與矩形成為主要表達符號。而身為建築師的赫里特·里特費爾德（Gerrit Rietveld），正是風格派的代表人物之一。
施特曼椅（Steltman Chair）是赫里特·里特費爾德創作生涯中的最後一件作品，於1963年受海牙珠寶商施特曼（Steltman）委託製作，為珠寶店的客人提供的座椅。這張椅子由線條與平面構成，無論從哪個角度看都十分搶眼，具有獨特的方向性。扶手可以放置在左邊或右邊，當兩張椅子成對放置時，為珠寶店客人增添了互動和想像的空間，賦予了這對椅子象徵性的含義。
最初的設計由白色皮革包覆，里特費爾德於1964年去世後，推出了全橡木版本。如今，這款椅子有五種不同版本可供選擇，包括真皮、羊毛氈、橡木原色、橡木染黑和橡木洗白。
Abstraction and simplification were the two central themes of the Dutch De Stijl movement (1917-1931), which sought to reduce complex forms into geometric shapes, relying on planes, straight lines, and rectangles as key expressive elements. As a renowned architect and a pivotal figure in the movement, Gerrit Rietveld embraced these principles in his work.
The Steltman Chair was one of Rietveld’s final masterpieces, created in 1963 at the request of the Hague-based jeweler Steltman, who needed seating for his shop. The chair's design, composed of bold lines and planes, catches the eye from any angle and is notable for its strong directional quality. The armrest can be placed on either the left or right, and when two chairs are positioned side by side, they create an interactive space for customers, adding a symbolic dimension to the seating arrangement.
Initially, the chair was upholstered in white leather. After Rietveld's passing in 1964, an all-oak version was introduced. Today, the Steltman Chair is available in five variations, including versions in leather, wool felt, natural oak, black-stained oak, and whitewashed oak, making it a timeless piece of modernist design.
