This piece exemplifies the dedication and craftsmanship of its maker, with every detail meticulously considered, from material selection to intricate carvings. Crafted from precious ebony (blackwood), this chair features dense, substantial wood and finely carved double-sided patterns, giving it an enduring quality. To offer viewers insight into the natural beauty of unpolished wood grain and showcase the craftsman's pursuit of flawless artistry and focus, this chair is presented as a demonstration piece.
Known as the “Living Room Chair,” it serves a modern home function with a lower seat height, wide seating area, reclining backrest, and lowered armrests for ergonomic comfort, providing a sofa-like seating experience. Additional cushions can be used to enhance comfort, with a complementary tea table of matching low height.
Structurally, this chair differs from traditional armchairs. The backrest and armrests are secured to the seat frame with mortise-and-tenon joints, while the overall style, waist structure, and inlaid mother-of-pearl still adhere to traditional furniture standards.
The headrest and lower waist area feature grapevine carvings that extend to the sides, adding a sense of movement. The back panel is solid, with mother-of-pearl inlays of lotus and vase motifs, serving as a focal point. The back frame and armrests are robust, mimicking rattan nodes, and the legs are fashioned with outward-turning lion paw feet, a characteristic feature of modern Daxi-style official's hat chairs.
