This was where the police and schoolteachers changed out of their clothes and lounged after their workout.
The Daxi Wude Hall was completed in the 10th year of Shōwa’s reign (1935). It was originally used by male staff (of elementary or public school) and the police for Kendo practices. The interiors of the wood outbuilding—completed at the same time—included a hallway and a changing room for Kendo practitioners, along with a dorm for the superintendents.
After the nationalist government relocated to Taiwan, the Wude Hall was converted to be used by the military police force, and the outbuilding was vacated to domicile them. The inhabitants of this particular period of time was the superintendents for president Chiang’s residence. And since the living quarters were inadequate to house the number of military police officers, a whole row of bungalows was built behind the Wude Hall as their kitchen and restrooms.

In 1999, the military police force vacated from the Wude Hall, and the edifice was turned over to the township hall for management. The neighboring spaces were handed over to the police station. Fast-forward to 2015, the Wude Hall and the neighboring facilities experienced another handover to Wood Art Ecomuseum. In May, 2016, the renovations of the outbuilding and the rebuild of the cloister were completed. At present, these spaces are used as showrooms for large exhibitions.
