Due to its close proximity to president Chiang’s residence, Martial Arts Dojo in post WWII served as an office for the military police force, a dorm, and a mechanical control room; living quarters for the staff started to be built in the areas surrounding the Temple.

The dorm behind Martial Arts Dojo (now serving as a Multifunction classroom, the original address of which was Puji Road, No. 33-1 and 33-2) was built circa 1950’s as an one-level, semidetached architecture for the custodians working in the presidential residence. In the years to come, the space became inadequate for the inhabitants and as a result, they started adding new living quarters in the direction of the ridgeline, using the commonly-available iron roof, bricked dividing walls, concrete foundation wall, angle bar awning and translucent corrugated panels.

The addition and modification of the bungalows were defined by the landscape and built organically to preserve the nostalgic ambiance of that epoch. For this particular renovation, a section of the previously-added concrete wall is preserved as a marker for a time gone by.

The structure sitting on Puji Road, No. 35, by the flank of Martial Arts Dojo, used to be the residential quarters of president Chiang’s guards. They were later turned over to the military police force. The wood structure features a concrete foundation, and the façade of the wall is protected by a weatherboard.

This structure on Puji Road, No. 35 had at one time been converted into a family center inside Daxi Library. Between 2015 and 2017, it served as the administration center of the Ecomuseum. In 2020, the building was restored to its former look, with a weatherboard façade. It’s now designated as the Woodcraft Classroom.
