In 1843, during the Qing dynastical reign, Lin Ben-yuan of the powerful and wealthy Lin Family built a stately manor, the base of which was 216 meters long, and 144 meters wide. The outer wall encircling the estate is four meters tall and 4.5 meters in thickness.

The manor became the de-facto town center and over time, the chessboard of street blocks of the modern-day Daxi started to take shape.

A scale model of the Manor. Visit Daxi History Hall for a detailed introduction.

Following the completion of the manor, local residents began to congregate around it, establishing shopfronts to run small businesses.
