This iconic cloister is the connector between the Wude Hall and the outbuilding.
The Wude Hall was built for promoting Japanese martial arts, and a sacred space for worship services. On the other hand, a space must be vacated for users to change and rest before and after Judo and Kendo practices, hence the outbuilding.
Judging from the interviews we have conducted, the cloister also came with a small room for practitioners to change and bathe; the outbuilding can be used to conduct administrative affairs and for lodging, which also houses a banquet room, a boardroom, and a bedroom for the superintendent.
